Paideia Classical Christian School is Hiring a Music Teacher Near Tampa, FL

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Music Teacher (K-12) will teach, model, and cultivate student appreciation of music and an understanding of rhythm, reading sheet music, and singing in parts. In addition, the music teacher will instill a love for learning and a love for God in the hearts and minds of Paideia students.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required as a minimum
  • Familiarity with the classical Christian education model preferred
  • Committed Christian and active member of an evangelical church able to affirm school’s statement of faith

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Head of School, the responsibilities for the Music Teacher include, but are not limited to the following:

CRITICAL PERFORMANCE COMPETENCIES

  • Outstanding written and oral communication
  • Familiarity with musical notation software
  • Adhere to biblical standards in all areas of conduct
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of information
  • Effective in handling multiple concurrent tasks
  • Flexible and adaptable in dealing with new, different, or changing requirements
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Outlook and able to learn and work with the school’s integrated data-based software package as needed (FACTS/RenWeb)

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach music and musical instruments.
  • Plan and execute an annual K – 12th grade Christmas program
  • Demonstrate and inculcate the art of music as one of the quadrivium arts
  • Develop a program for students in grades 5th-6th to be trained on the recorder
  • Develop and select students for the Upper School Choir (grades 9-12) and train them for school functions
  • Develop a symphonic band or orchestra program
  • Embody and create a culture of music that draws our students into a love of music that embodies Truth, Goodness, and Beauty

BASIC TASKS OF A TEACHER

SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP

  • Consistently exhibit love, joy, peace, and spiritual maturity before students and the rest of the school
  • Be a student and lover of the Bible, God’s only written Word
  • Participate actively and joyfully in staff meetings (‘Lyceum’ is once a week)

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure that students are aware of class and school rules and encourage them to exercise self-discipline
  • Be very familiar with and able to apply the “spirit” as well as the “letter” of school rules
  • Maintain an orderly (not necessarily silent) working atmosphere
  • Deal with the vast majority of corrective discipline situations within the classroom
  • Maintain a neat, organized, and clean, classroom environment
  • Establish simple and manageable class routines to accomplish basic tasks, (i.e. taking attendance, homework collection, daily cleaning, schedules, materials storage and distribution, etc.)

LESSON PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION

  • Have a thorough knowledge of and interest in the subjects assigned to teach
  • Encourage students to see how all subjects are interrelated, as parts of God’s integrated universe
  • Develop weekly lesson plans that reflect creativity and good use of class time
  • Annually review and revise Curriculum Guides and Curriculum Overviews, and complete the Year in Review document
  • Teach utilizing the objectives, materials, priorities, and methods prescribed in the Curriculum Guide
  • Use clear language and appropriate vocabulary
  • Use a variety of teaching methods that includes integrating the Seven Laws of Teaching into lessons
  • Look for and apply Scriptural principles to daily lesson plans, to encourage students to first recognize God’s handiwork and creation in all areas of our lives

STUDENT LEARNING

  • Stimulate and maintain the students’ interest in the material
  • Recognize and make reasonable accommodations for individual needs
  • Use a variety of techniques (in addition to testing) to measure student progress
  • Use the Curriculum Guide as the basis for measuring the overall progress of the class and individual students

PROFESSIONALISM

  • Consistently and joyfully demonstrate excellence in work, punctuality, speech, attitude, dress, and attention to administrative duties
  • Communicate with parents each week in the Grammar grades. Emphasize getting to know the families well and letting them know what is happening in class. Parents should feel welcome to visit and assist in the classroom.
  • Cooperate with administration in annual evaluation
  • Cheerfully comply with all applicable policies in the Faculty/Staff Handbook and with all administrative directives
  • Cheerfully attend to assigned or volunteered collateral duties such as lunch and recess duty, attendance at school programs and events; others as prescribed by the school administration

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20,000.00 - $26,500.00 per year
